Mountain bikes are one of my favorite sports to talk about, from a business perspective, because as an affiliate marketer, I see this as one of the most profitable high ticket niches you can make money from.
And with the following 8 affiliate programs that give you the opportunity to sell them as well as their accessories, you’re going to see that shortly.
- As long as you know more than a beginner does about this sport.
- As long as you use good affiliate marketing strategies (like blogging and using YouTube).
- And as long as you use one or more of the 8 affiliate programs on this list.
- You can do really well with this affiliate marketing niche.
Here are the 8 mountain bike affiliate programs (with commission numbers):
- Backcountry (4%-12%).
- REI (5%).
- Diamond Back (4%).
- Amazon Associates (3% to 10%).
- Clickbank (50%-75%).
- Moose Jaw (3%-10%).
- Eastern Mountain Sports (7%).
- Competitive Cyclist (5%-12%).
If you would like to have your mountain bike affiliate network featured on this page, contact me here.
As long as it’s legitimate, I will add it to the list.
And now, I’m going to detail each affiliate program on that list below.
How much can you make promoting mountain bikes? A $48,000 example:
So I have a lot of experience in the affiliate marketing realm, have promoted across numerous niche markets and can give people good estimates on what their niche can bring in if they:
Follow the proper guidance and work hard and in the case of mountain bikes, there’s really no limit to how much you can make in this niche.
But we’re going to keep it simple and just take 1 basic example of a mountain bike that you can promote which costs $5,000 (a decent end MTB):
- The average affiliate program on this list pays 4% or higher for each sale (and 12% on the higher end).
- If you take a decent mountain bike that costs $5,000 and make 1 sale for it, at 4% payouts, that’ll make you $200 a sale.
- If you can make 10 sales a month for a $5,000 bike, that’ll earn you $2,000 a month, and $24,000 a year.
- If you can make 20 sales a month for the same bike, that $4,000 a month and $48,000 a year.
That my friends can be a full time income for some people. And considering that there’s so many mountain bikes which cost a lot more and can make you such high ticket affiliate commissions, not to mention all the other accessories and products you can promote, the potential is even higher than that! I honestly believe mountain bikes and the outdoor niche it is part of to be one of the most profitable options out of any niche list I’ve ever done.
Don’t forget you can promote more than just mountain bikes!
Before we dive into each affiliate network, let me just say that there are tons of other products you can promote through the above 8 affiliate networks (not just mountain bikes). You don’t just have to stick to promoting mountain bikes only. Here are just some examples:
- Mountain bike accessories (Gears, brakes, tires, seats, helmets, ect…).
- Mountain bike sneakers.
- Mountain bike clothing (so many options).
- Making your own eBook product (see my passive income affiliate marketing post for details on this).
- Carrying equipment (for mountain bike travelers).
- Selling travel tickets to popular mountain bike destinations like Whistler.
- Ect…
Which affiliate program should I join if I want to promote mountain bikes?
The beauty is, these 8 are just options and you can honestly just stick to one if it’s making you sales and paying you well for them. I’ve done a bunch of research to provide these 8 options to you and will go over each right now.
As an affiliate you do have the freedom to sign up with many networks if you want, but I’d start with one, see if they approve you and if not, move onto another and if you do get approved and the commission rates are to your liking, then stick to it until you wish to find something better. Let’s get into it:
1) BackCountry.com
Affiliate commission rate: 4%-12% (30 day cookie).
Free to join? Yes.
Ability to promote mountain bikes? Yes!
Legit? Yes.
Affiliate program sign up: You can register for Backcountry.com’s affiliate program here. Back Country is connected to a larger affiliate conglomerate called Avanlink.com.
Description: When I began this list, I looked at some of the top YouTubers who run channels on mountain biking and one of them is called BKXC. He often does MTB videos and provides affiliate links to products, including the exact same bike he own, which is an Orbea Rallon, valued at nearly $10,000.
The link he provided took me to Backcountry.com in which you can buy similar bikes. Backcountry.com not only sells MTB’s, but also allows you to promote various other MTB accessories as well as camping supplies, among other outdoor gear.
2) REI.com
Affiliate commission rate: 5% (30 day cookie).
Free to join? Yes.
Ability to promote mountain bikes? Yes!
Legit? Yes.
Affiliate program sign up: Here is the link to sign up to REI’s affiliate program. This program is also connected to Avanlink.com.
Description: REI is a very popular outdoor brand store found across the United States and is a store that I frequently visit when I need help with items. They sell MTB’s and other outdoor accessories and yes, you can promote ALL of it as an affiliate for them.
Some say that REI’s products are overpriced, but a good mountain bike isn’t something I’d be cheap with to begin with, and it is a brand name that is recognized by many people, so promoted products from REI is something I’d recommend considering.
3) DiamondBack.com
Affiliate commission rate: 4% (30 day cookie).
Free to join? Yes.
Ability to promote mountain bikes? Yes!
Legit? Yes.
Affiliate program sign up: Here is the link to sign up with Diamondback.com’s affiliate program and just as with the other 2 programs above, it is also part of Avanlink.com.
Description: Diamond Back is one of the most popular mountain bike companies around and it allows you to promote many varieties of MTB as an affiliate for them, ranging in different prices.
4) Amazon Associates:
Affiliate commission rate: 3%-10% (24 hour cookie policy).
Free to join? Yes.
Ability to promote mountain bikes? Yes!
Legit? Yes.
Affiliate program sign up: Here is the link to sign up with Amazon Associates.
Description: Amazon Associates will probably be a good “ground floor” affiliate network you can sign up with if the others on this list don’t approve of your application.
Normally Amazon Associates used to pay 4% or higher, but recently Amazon slashed affiliate commissions for outdoor categories of products, for which mountain bikes probably fit into and while I would recommend the other affiliate networks on this list, Amazon will still be one of the most reliable for paying you on time and being consistent.
The only problem I have is their 24 hour cookie policy and the slashing of rates, but you still get access to promote SO many different products, which is why it’s on this list.
5) Clickbank.com
Affiliate commission rate: 50%-75% (60 day cookie policy).
Free to join? Yes.
Ability to promote mountain bikes? No, but hear me out before you dismiss this network!
Legit? Yes.
Affiliate program signup: Here’s the link to join Clickbank’s affiliate program.
Description: Clickbank is mainly known for selling digital goods and in the case of mountain bikes, while you can’t promote them there, you can promote eBooks and guides on mountain bikes such as how to fix them and make some pretty good sales and that I mean $20 or even $30 or higher per sale, something you’ll likely not be able to do with other affiliate networks.
Don’t forget, promoting MTB’s isn’t the only way to capitalize on this niche and you will find MTB related products on Clickbank that you can promote on your sites and channels.
Sometimes, people aren’t looking for a high ticket mountain bike. Many times, they are looking for info and guides on how to fix, maintain them and/or how to do other things with existing bikes they have and in this case, Clickbank will give you access to promote such products.
Furthermore, if you read my article about making a passive income with affiliate marketing, I suggested making your own product and putting it up on the Clickbank network for affiliates to promote, so if you know a ton about mountain bikes and can’t find a good MTB related product on Clickbank to promote, make your own and let other affiliates do the hard work for you.
6) Moose Jaw:
Affiliate commission rate: 3%-10% (30 day cookie policy).
Free to join? Yes.
Ability to promote mountain bikes? Yes!
Legit? Yes.
Affiliate program signup: Here’s the link to join Moose Jaw’s affiliate program.
Description: Moose Jaw is like any other mountain bike affiliate program on this list (aside from Clickbank which doesn’t sell them), but it’s less known than Back Country or places like REI. Yet at the same time, remember to keep options like this one in mind when applying in case the other programs don’t approve you.
7) Eastern Mountain Sports:
Affiliate commission rate: 7% and up (Not mentioned, but I say it’s a 30 day cookie policy because it’s part of Avantlink).
Free to join? No.
Ability to promote mountain bikes? Yes!
Legit? Yes.
Affiliate program signup: Here is the link to sign up with Eastern Mountain Sports.
Description: Eastern Mountain Sports like Clickbank does not sell mountain bikes, but it does sell outdoor gear including the type you can promote for mountain bikers, and at a 7% and up commission rate, it’s something you should consider joining too.
8) Competitive Cyclist:
Affiliate commission rate: 5%-12% (Also likely 30 days).
Free to join? Yes.
Ability to promote mountain bikes? Yes!
Legit? Yes.
Affiliate program signup: Here is the link to sign up with Competitive Cyclist. It is also part of Avantlink.
Description: Competitive Cyclist offers affiliates the ability to promote more than just mountain bikes, but other categories of bicycles as well and a plethora of other tools for your bike to promote.
Note: See 10 cycling affiliate programs here for more options!
